Civil War Reenactment at Rancho de Los Golondrinas

For guests coming to The Hacienda Nicholas Bed & Breakfast Inn this May, a visit to the Civil War Reenactment at Rancho de los Golondrinas is a must.  Rancho de los Golondrinas (The Ranch of the Swallows) is a living history museum situated on 200 acres of an old ranch just south of Santa Fe.  Visitors enjoy special weekend events throughout the year during which volunteers wear period costumes and demonstrate daily life and historical events of the 18th and 19th century in New Mexico.  The place is fascinating even without a special event, as one can wander through original colonial buildings that have survived here since the early 1700's, as well as other historical structures from northern New Mexico that have been reconstructed at Rancho de los Golondrinas.

The Civil War Re-enactment takes place the weekend of May 14 and 15 from 10am-4pm.  The two day event features demonstrations of military drills, camp life, educational lectures and reenactments of actual Civil War battles fought in New Mexico.  For a special treat, book a Candlelight Tour and experience Civil War camp after sundown.  These tours are 20 minutes in length and must be reserved in advance by calling 505.471.2261.

Admission for the Civil War Reenactment is slightly higher than normal daily fees, but still a great deal.  Adults are $8, Seniors over 62 and teens 13-18 are a mere $5, while children under 12 are admitted free of charge.

For a memorable glimpse at New Mexico history, Los Golondrinas delivers.
