For our guests who fall in love with the touches of Spanish art placed throughout The Hacienda Nicholas B&B Inn, this weekend is the perfect time to start your own collection of this beautiful art. Plan to check out this summer's highly-acclaimed Spanish Market, held at the nearby Santa Fe Plaza on July 30 and 31. Spanish Market began way back in 1926, and is now the largest and most spectacular of any such market in the country. You will see traditional Spanish Colonial art and contemporary Hispanic Arts, including santos, boltos, straw applique work and more. With over 200 vendors from New Mexico showing their work, plus music, dance, food and demonstrations, the festival is a great opportunity to experience past and present New Mexico Culture.
Many of you may also be interested in the special mass to be celebrated at the St. Francis Basilica on Sunday at 8am. There you will see the blessing of the art and the artists of the Spanish Market. This mass will be followed by a procession around the Plaza, led by a Mariachi band. A very festive beginning to the day.

You will find peace and tranquility behind our adobe walls at The Hacienda Nicholas Bed and Breakfast Inn, as well as on the famous home and garden tour, Behind Adobe Walls. This annual tour, put on by the Santa Fe Garden Club, features four incredibly beautiful Santa Fe homes and their gardens.
I remember going on this tour several years ago and being amazed by what I saw. One home in particular was one I had passed a hundred times while driving, and never thought it was at all remarkable. Going behind the high adobe walls surrounding the house was another matter - inside were lush gardens, a spectacularly beautiful adobe home, and an amazing collection of fine art.
These are the surprises and delights that await anyone taking the tour. The tour, which began in 1941 (with a break for the war) is the oldest and one of the most prestigious of its kind in the country. Because it is so very popular, you will want to make your reservations as soon as possible.

Santa Fe is known for its plethora of fine dining establishments, as well as its myriad of Northern New Mexican restaurants. For those guests of The Hacienda Nicholas Bed & Breakfast Inn who want a break from costly high end cuisine, or don't want to hear the question, "red or green?"(as in chile), The Flying Star Cafe is just the place.
With an emphasis on local and organic foods, the menu offers a variety of salads, soups, burgers and sandwiches, along with a huge array of award-winning desserts and baked goods. In addition, there are a number of selections for those following a gluten-free or vegan diet. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is that of a contemporary diner.
Serving from 7am until 9pm during the week, and until 10pm on Friday and Saturday, The Flying Star has something for everyone.

Guests of The Hacienda Nicholas Bed & Breakfast Inn are invited to take advantage of a special deal at the Black Mesa Winery. Simply let the innkeeper know you are interested in the Two for One Wine Tasting and you will receive a coupon giving you access to the Black Mesa Winery tasting for just $7 for two people.
It may come as a surprise to many people, but New Mexico is actually the oldest wine-growing region in the United States! The first grapevines were planted in New Mexico as far back as 1629, while California didn't begin planting grapevines until 1769.
Stop by the Black Mesa Winery, perhaps on the way back from a day-trip to Taos, and learn more about the history of New Mexico wine while sipping some award-winning New Mexico wines. The Black Mesa Winery is located in Velarde, NM, in between Santa Fe and Taos. As members of the New Mexico Wine Grower's Association, Blue Mesa Winery strives to make wine of the highest quality.

This afternoon I went to buy recycled ink for the Hacienda Nicholas B&B office printer, but alack alas, I found that the store had moved. However, while there, I made a great discovery. Right next door to where my eco-friendly computer ink store used to be (by Jinga Restaurant) is the new location of the Barkin' Boutique, a fabulous consignment shop whose proceeds go to benefit the Espanola Valley Animal Shelter.
I found an assortment of high quality clothes and shoes (including some well-known designer labels), along with handbags, jewelry, shoes and accessories. Even better, the prices are lower than Double Take, Act Two and many of the other Santa Fe consignment shops. Because it was my birthday, I treated myself to several dresses and a pair of shoes - way more fun than buying computer ink!
This store is a great destination for visitors and locals alike, and what better cause than the animal shelter?

We are noticing an uptick in reservations at Hacienda Nicholas Bed & Breakfast Inn, now that the fire scares have dissipated. Perhaps even more travelers will add Santa Fe to their travel itineraries now that Travel + Leisure Magazine has once again ranked Santa Fe as one of the Top Ten Cities in the U.S. and Canada.
The Travel + Leisure Annual Survey of the World's Best Cities ranks Santa Fe as Number Five, where it has been for the past three years. We Santa Feans are tickled pink to be chosen just after New York, Charleston, Chicago and San Francisco.
The survey questions cover everything from weather to activities, scenic beauty to nightlife, so it is quite a honor to retain our high placement.

Guests staying at The Hacienda Nicholas Bed & Breakfast love all the colorful Mexican tile through the inn. Many are inspired to purchase some for a bathroom or kitchen re-model at home. This weekend brings a great opportunity for anyone looking to bring some Santa Fe style to their own home, during Artesanos Imports' annual 4th of July storewide sale.
All weekend long Artesonos will be selling floor tiles, wall tiles, punched tin mirrors, glass, lighting fixtures and more at great prices. The tiles are the best deal in the store, at 50% off, but everything else is 25-30% off.
I have found the staff to be invaluable in assisting with measurements, amounts and selection, so I have always gotten exactly what I needed for a given project.
At prices like these, you may want to do more than one bathroom!
