61st Annual Spanish Market in Santa Fe

Guests of The Hacienda Nicholas Bed & Breakfast Inn won't want to miss the 61st Annual Spanish Market, happening on the Santa Fe Plaza, just a few blocks from the inn.  This event features traditional Spanish art from over 350 local Hispanic artists, as well as music, dance and tasty foods.

The Santa Fe Spanish Market is the oldest and largest such market in the United States, and offers visitors a unique opportunity to not only view and purchase traditional handmade crafts, but to learn about the process of creating these works of art by speaking directly with the artists and their families.  On display will be paintings and carvings of saints, intricate straw appliqué work, weavings, tinwork and hand-carved furniture.  Of course the addition of Spanish music, dance and food showcases the city's Spanish culture on a myriad of levels.

If you miss the summer Spanish Market, you can see a wide array of this artwork at the Spanish Colonial Arts Museum, or plan to be in Santa Fe for the smaller Winter Spanish Market, which takes place every December - a perfect place to do your Christmas shopping!

Viva Mexico Carnaval

Guests of the Hacienda Nicholas Bed & Breakfast Inn are drawn to Santa Fe for a myriad of reasons, not the least of which is to learn about and explore our various cultures.  This weekend brings a fantastic event for anyone wishing to be immersed, however briefly, into the culture of Mexico.  The Viva Mexico Carnaval will take place on July 21 and 22 at Rancho de las Golondrinas, a living history museum just south of Santa Fe.  Come either one or both days between the hours of 10-5 for dancing, colorful costumes, music, Mariachi clowns, a fantastic artist market, pinatas, delicious Mexican cooking, healing ceremonies and more.

Rancho de las Golondrinas is a remarkable place to visit any day, and an event such as this just adds loads of yummy icing on the cake!

Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and teens, and children under 13 are admitted free.

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet's Upcoming Performance

I am highly recommending that guests of The Hacienda Nicholas Bed & Breakfast Inn who are fortunate enough to be in town on July 13 & 14, 2012, get advance tickets for the incredibly vivacious and fabulous Aspen Santa Fe Ballet.  This small troupe of dancers never ceases to amaze with their presentations of innovative choreography, breath-taking athleticism and utter grace in all they do.

We are ever so fortunate to have such a highly-acclaimed company, who has performed at Jacob's Pillow, the Kennedy Center, Wolftrap and New York City's Joyce Theater, grace us with their presence at the historic Lensic Performing Arts Centre in downtown Santa Fe.

The upcoming performances will feature contemporary works by some of the world's most noted young choreographers.  You will be treated to the work of Alejandro Cerrudo of Hubbard Street Dance, Cayetano Soto's wonderful Kiss Me Goodnight, and the rock-the-house, take-your-breath-away Square None by Norbert De La Cruz.  I have seen Square None twice already, and can't wait to see it for a third time!

Ticket prices are $25, $36, $55 and $72, and may be purchased online or by phoning 505.988.1234.
